He Xianzhao Philosophy of Science Essay Prize is established to promote the teaching of philosophy of science at HKUST, thanks to the donation by the entrepreneur Xianzhao He. The award will carry a cash prize of 2,000 HK dollars and the awardee may have an opportunity to present the essay in the CWB Philosophy of Science Annual Workshop. This prize is administered by the Center for Philosophy of Science.

Call for Submissions

The Center for Philosophy of Science, HKUST invites submissions for the 2026 He Xianzhao Philosophy of Science Essay Prize. This annual prize competition is established to promote the teaching of philosophy of science at HKUST, thanks to the donation by the entrepreneur Xianzhao He. Entries in the form of an essay of 3,000-3,500 words in English are invited. The author of the winning entry will be invited to present the work at the 4th CWB Philosophy of Science Annual Workshop to be held in June 2027. The award may carry a cash prize of 2,000 HK dollars. Other strong entries will also be considered for presentation at the Annual Workshop.

Entries are invited from any HKUST student who is not doing a research postgraduate degree on a topic in the philosophy of science. Co-authored work will be not considered. This prize is administered by the Center for Philosophy of Science.

Entries for the prize competition should include a title page, containing the author’s information, and a manuscript, prepared for blind assessment. Entries should be submitted in pdf format by e-mail to Qinyi Wang (qwangdi@connect.ust.hk). Any queries should also be directed to her. The deadline for submission is 31 October 2026.
